Not Pictured, The Waiting is Over

Not Pictured, The Waiting is Over album cover
Brainchild of the visionary singer/songwriter Jamie Hughes, Not Pictured was his follow up to Electric Sheep. It found the incomparable Jamie Thomas on drums and the indomitable Mick Swan on bass, both formerly of Electric sheep, join talents with yet a third Jamie (James) Berry on keys and Bronson Brown-deVost (né Devost) on the electric guitar. The band served as an artistic outlet for experimentation with nerd/progressive rock aspirations under the firm canopy of Hughes’s warmly rich, folksy vocals and his intricate acoustic guitar work.

Their only album “The Waiting is Over” presents Hughes’s heartfelt introspection concerning his past and current relationships alongside his personal faith journey. The album eschews traditional rock/folk song structures, most notably a 4/4 time signature. All the while it emphasizes a rhythmic structure that accentuates the ebb and flow of the lyrical progressions by means of a subtle and impressionistic placement of the downbeat, which provides an unanchored feel to the musical odyssey of the work. Ironically, for fans of Not Pictured the wait to hear this album on a digital platform would not be over till more than 20 years after its creation.
